2024 LVECHS and Secondary Teacher of the Year

My journey into the world of healthcare began with a calling to serve others. From a young age, I possessed an innate sense of empathy and a desire to make a tangible difference in people's lives. My path led me to pursue a career in nursing, where I quickly distinguished myself as a compassionate caregiver and a relentless advocate for my patients. I graduated from South Texas College in 2012 as a Licensed Vocational Nurse.

In 2020, amidst unprecedented challenges in the healthcare landscape, I made a pivotal decision to transition from clinical practice to education. Armed with years of experience and a deep understanding of the intricacies of healthcare, I took on a new chapter as a teacher, determined to impart my knowledge and passion to our aspiring healthcare professionals. I embarked into uncharted waters with one goal in mind, to make a difference in the lives of the young generation in our community.

As an educator, I've embraced a diverse range of roles. Through my journey, I've imparted knowledge across various courses aimed at equipping students with essential skills for thriving in the healthcare industry. My teaching portfolio spans Health Science Theory, Principles of Health Science, and Medical Terminology. In addition, I've taken on the responsibility of guiding students through a Medical Assistant practicum, a pivotal step in certifying them and preparing them for the workforce post high school. Beyond the traditional high school curriculum, I've expanded my horizons by instructing a college-level course, specifically HPRS 1101 and HPRS 2302 through Texas Southmost College. Moreover, as the HOSA sponsor of 51 students, I've fostered a culture of community service among my students, providing them with a solid foundation for personal and professional growth.

As a nurse turned teacher, I have not only embraced my role as an educator, but have also become a beacon of inspiration for my students. Everyday I try my very best to instill in them the values of compassion, professionalism, and lifelong learning, laying the foundation for their success in the dynamic field of healthcare. With a strong foundation in nursing and a continuous pursuit of excellence through certifications and teaching assignments, I am committed to nurturing the next generation of healthcare professionals. My impact extends far beyond the classroom, as I continue to shape the future of healthcare through my dedication and unwavering commitment to education. Together, let us continue to inspire, innovate, and make a positive impact on the future of our students.
